BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA - A suspect has been charged in a weekend Birmingham shooting that killed one teen and wounded another.
Adrian Sikweya Nyaberi, 20, is charged with capital murder in the slaying of Huffman High School junior George Camarius Daniel, 16.
The charge is a capital crime because Daniel was in a vehicle when he was killed.
Nyaberi is also charged with attempted murder for the wounding of the surviving teen, and with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
Nyaberi will be held without bond once he is transferred from the Birmingham City Jail to the Jefferson County Jail.
The city’s East Precinct officers were dispatched shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday to a report of a traffic crash in the 1000 block of Huffman Road.
When police arrived, they found Daniel unresponsive outside of a vehicle. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced the young victim dead on the scene at 4:30 p.m.
The second victim was taken to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.
Officer De’Rell Freeman said investigators believe that multiple people met at the location for an unknown reason prior to shots being fired.
